Connect with Achievers: Pratyush Vel
Welcome to “Connect with Achievers” – eduSeed’s blog segment where students from eduSeed showcase their accomplishments in coding and mathematics beyond the classroom. In today’s post, we feature Pratyush Vel Shankar, a 14-year-old passionate coder. He recently took part in a 24-hour codefest organized by Oakridge International School,Bengaluru, where his team’s innovative project earned him the 2nd prize.
Let’s dive into an interview with Pratyush.
Congratulations Pratyush on winning second place in the hackathon! How does it feel to achieve this milestone?
Thank you so much! It feels incredible. Honestly, I’m still processing it all. This was my first time participating in a hackathon of this scale, and I didn’t expect to make it this far. It’s been an exciting journey!
That’s amazing! Can you tell us a little about your project and what inspired you to create it?
Sure! Our project is called “EcoTouri,” and it’s an app that generates information on the importance of sustainability and eco friendliness of our travel. The inspiration came from a desire to protect our planet and pass on a love for it to future generations. We wanted to create a tool that not only educates users but also empowers them to make more environmentally friendly choices.
That’s a fantastic idea! What were some of the challenges you faced during the hackathon, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges was managing time effectively. With just 24 hours to brainstorm, design, and develop the app, it was a real race against the clock. We had to be very strategic about dividing tasks and making sure everyone played to their strengths. We also ran into some technical issues with integrating real-time data, but we managed to troubleshoot them as a team and find creative workarounds.I want to extend a special thanks to my coding teachers at eduSeed for strengthening my foundation in coding, which helped me a lot.
It sounds like teamwork played a big role in your success. What’s the biggest lesson you’re taking away from this experience?
Absolutely! Teamwork was everything. I learned the importance of clear communication, staying adaptable, and supporting each other through the highs and lows. Also, not being afraid to take risks and think outside the box – that’s where the real innovation happens.
Great insights, Pratyush! Lastly, do you have any advice for other students who are thinking about participating in a hackathon?
Definitely! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and try something new. Hackathons are a great way to learn, meet new people, and challenge yourself. Even if you don’t win, the experience and knowledge you gain are invaluable. And most importantly, have fun and enjoy the process!
Wise words! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and once again, congratulations on your achievement!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
