Have you ever created a super cool app using MIT App Inventor and wondered, “How do I install this on my phone?” Well, don’t worry! You’re in the right place. Today, we will learn the steps to install your very own app. It’s easier than you think, and soon you’ll be showing off your app like a true tech wizard!

Step 1: Build and Export Your App

Before we install anything, we need to get the app ready!

  1. Open MIT App Inventor and make sure your app is complete and working smoothly.

  2. Click on Build in the top menu.

  3. You’ll see two options:

    • App (provide QR code for .apk) – This lets you download the app using a QR code.

    • App (save .apk to my computer) – This saves the app file (.apk) to your computer.

  4. Choose the second option to save the file on your computer.

Step 2: Transfer the App to Your Phone

Now that we have the app file, it’s time to move it to your phone. Here’s how:

Method 1: Using a USB Cable

  1. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.

  2. On your phone, allow file transfers if prompted.

  3. Copy the .apk file from your computer and paste it into the Downloads folder on your phone.

  4. Safely remove the USB cable.

Method 2: Using a QR Code (If You Used the First Build Option)

  1. In MIT App Inventor, after clicking Build, select App (provide QR code for .apk).

  2. A QR code will appear on your screen.

  3. Open the MIT AI2 Companion app on your phone.

  4. Scan the QR code, and your app will begin downloading.

Step 3: Install the App on Your Phone

  1. Open File Manager on your phone and go to the Downloads folder.

  2. Find your app file (it will have the .apk extension).

  3. Tap on it to start the installation.

  4. If you see a message saying, “Install blocked” or “Unknown source,” don’t panic! Just do this:

    • Go to Settings > Security.

    • Enable Install apps from unknown sources.

    • Try installing the app again.

  5. Wait for the installation to complete and tap Open. Boom! Your app is ready to use!

Congratulations!  You’ve successfully installed an app built in App Inventor. Now, go ahead and test it, share it with your friends, or even upload it to an app store! Who knows, maybe your app will be the next big thing! Keep coding and have fun creating more awesome apps!
