7 Tips to Improve Public Speaking in Kids
Have you ever wondered what is the most essential skill for our kids to have? I am sure most of us would choose public speaking and that is the fact too.
Public speaking is an art; once we help our kids master it, there is no limit to the progress they will be making. It is not an inborn talent as it is popularly believed to be, but, it can be acquired over time by practising some simple tips to improve public speaking!
Let them speak at every chance they get! Whether it is ordering their favourite dish at the restaurant, asking directions to a place or striking up a conversation with a fellow traveller, every tiny bit adds to their confidence.
7 Tips to Improve Public Speaking in Kids
Encourage reading
Reading is like a magic potion for developing soft skills in kids. The more they read, it increases their vocabulary, fluency with the language and the ability to generate new ideas and opinions. You can practise tongue twisters to help with good pronunciation and speech clarity.
Know the audience
We need to keep in mind the background of the audience and tailor our speech accordingly. Also, the inclusion of humour and short stories can make the speech more engaging.
Preparation is the key to success
While preparing for a speech, research skills are our best friend! It is important that the speech relates to the given topic and can be completed in the allotted time. A solid understanding of the topic will give a huge confidence to face the crowd.

Grab attention
Beginning the speech with a short story, a song or a fun fact will help us gain the attention of the audience. Asking an open-ended question will encourage participation from the audience and make the speech more interesting.
Believe in what you speak
The confidence in speaking is very obvious when we believe in it. It is vital to own the stage, have a good posture, maintain eye contact, make gestures and have a positive attitude while speaking.

Practice till perfect
We can encourage kids to practice before the mirror or make a video recording of the speech and show it to them. It gives them a chance to see how they perform and identify areas that need improvement.

Make it a daily exercise
Prepare a jar filled with topics written on tiny bits of paper. Your kid can select one each day, take a few minutes for preparation and then speak about it. The topics can be based on the age and interests of your child.
With more and more nuclear families, there are fewer opportunities for our little ones to interact with or speak to regularly. Public Speaking in kids is a skill that is best practised in a group setting, as children have the opportunity to speak with peers at their level and learn from each other. At eduSeed, the course is tailored to different age groups and includes relevant topics and tips to help your child become an accomplished public speaker.
